About:
Kristine Faxon is passionate about connecting people with the natural world through education, design, and community engagement. She brings a long career leading marketing and communications across both the nonprofit and private sectors, including financial, luxury, and media industries. In the nonprofit world, her work has centered on donor development, communications, and volunteer engagement—helping organizations tell their story, deepen relationships, and inspire action in support of their mission. While not a scientist or botanist by training, Kristine has long been passionate about native plants and gardening. Now serving in local government as a project manager in digital accessibility, she integrates principles of inclusivity and accessibility into all that she does. She enjoys hiking Colorado’s trails with her dog, finding inspiration from native plants in their natural habitats, and transforming her own yard by replacing lawn with natives, one plant at a time.
What inspired you to become involved with Wild Ones:
Gardening with native plants has always brought me joy. When I lived on the East Coast, my garden in Connecticut thrived with natives and the pollinators they attracted. Moving to Colorado was a humbling experience—I had to unlearn what I thought I knew about gardening and begin again in an entirely different ecosystem. Along the way, I rediscovered how deeply connected we are to the land and its native plants, which sustain the insects, birds, and wildlife that depend on them. I believe that cultivating native plants is one of the most hopeful and tangible ways we can restore balance and belonging for both people and the planet.
