Photo Story: This photo was taken on a Natural Resources Foundation field trip to Lizard Mound State Park. As we followed our tour guide into a wooded area, the stump and seedlings with dappled light came into view.

Just as the first green leaves of spring were emerging, Nashville TN was hit with a rare ice storm. Last year’s seed pods and spring’s new leaves enshrined in icy glass caught my eye. This fragile beauty lasted only a brief time, as the ice melted before noon.

Photo Story: We were in the area for a wedding and carved out some time to enjoy nature. We found this beauty in Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden and Bird Sanctuary. This is a 15 acre plot with over 500 plants and 130 bird species. Ms Butler was a botany teacher. She and 3 other botany teachers asked for a small portion of a park to set up a “wild garden.” It is a lovely place to relax near a big metropolis.
